I started this Anime Weekend Atlanta with a little Cosplay concern. That big cross I carry around for conventions, it's normally so heavy because it's so full of mercy, cardboard, and/or packages, take your pick. But Friday morning when I reached out to catch my falling cross, it suddenly became so full of worry as I noticed the particularly pink color of the inside of the prop. Thankfully it was just a crack on a seam, but for the rest of the day, I was paranoidly watching my cross, just in case an entire chunk decided to liberate itself. Thankfully some hot glue that night took care of my worry.
But enough about me, lets look at all those lovely people who decided to show up on Anime Weekend Atlanta Day 1.
Pardon the blur, but the Magnificence that is Vic Mignogna, also know as that voice actor who wonders why he keeps getting asked back, cannot be contained in a simple photograph. One of the few times I have actually gone to Opening Ceremonies, and now I ask myself, why? It's great being able to hear the big news and the big names that will be surrounding you for the next few days.
Friday may be considered one of the 'lighter' convention days for AWA, but it felt pretty heavy to me. Heck, for the entire weekend, two of the video rooms were so packed that you were constantly walking by hours earlier just to see if you couldn't squeeze in! No way am I missing a Gunbuster showing!
But not only was Friday busy, it was busy with Cosplay! And if Friday was busy with Cosplay, then I too should be busy with Cosplay!
Now this little one above was mind-numbingly cute. Here I am talking with my friends in a sea of Cosplay, then slowly but surely, everyone is dropping out of the conversation to watch this adorable kid in a Keroberos costume. I managed to get a rare shot of him (her? I didn't ask!) standing up. When they say Cosplayers start young, this is what they're talking about.
And not only was there great individual Cosplays, but I have to admit, some of the groups were downright amazing together. What kind of groups you ask? well for example, lets look at this Final Fantasy 8 group!

And yes, that IS a game of Triple Triad that Headmaster Cid and Rinoa are playing. Need I repeat how awesome this group is! Consider this a pro-tip folks, your Cosplay will look exponentially more amazing when placed right next to an equally amazing cosplay, and likewise for them. This goes for props and accessories too. I've said it a dozen times this AWA, the details make the Cosplay!
Oh, and speaking of Final Fantasy Cosplay...
... you can see for yourself, there were quite a number this year and... hey...
... is... is that a Tonberry? I don't know about you! but I'm choosing to run from this battle!
This has been That Wolfwood Guy, Signing Off!
*doink!*
